Amy Does It Five Times
British singer Amy Winehouse has won the awards for Best Song and Record of the Year at the Grammy Awards. She also won three other Grammys despite missing out on the ceremony. The United States denied her an entry visa into the country due to her drugs record. Officials were not prepared to make any exceptions – not even for a Grammy Awards nominee.
Amy’s devoted fans are hoping this will be another reason for the performer to stick with rehab. Winehouse has been called a phenomenal talent by her fans and peers. The troubled artist was secretly filmed smoking a crack cocaine pipe and taking other illegal drugs at a party at her house.
The Grammy Awards is a highly esteemed event that pays tribute to the absolute best in the music industry. Before rehab, Winehouse had noticeably lost a great deal of weight and seemed to be in a catatonic state much of the time. Guests and nominees were able to see and hear Amy’s acceptance speech via satellite. It was obvious that the British pop star is looking a lot healthier since she started getting treatment.
The last UK performer to get a Grammy for Best New Artist was Sade in 1986. Winehouse joined the list when she accepted the award last night. In Amy’s acceptance speech she mentioned her husband. She referred to him as ‘my Blake, my incarcerated Blake’. Her husband Blake Fielder-Civil is in prison, charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice and grievous bodily harm.
The United States did eventually overturn their decision regarding an entry visa for Winehouse. This was in spite of the fact that she has been charged with possessing cannabis in Norway. However, it was too late for her to personally be present at the awards ceremony. The singer spent two weeks in rehab but has left the clinic for a period.
