Early bet: The first bet in a game of stud poker.

Early surrender: A blackjack tactic that's not allowed in most casinos. Early surrender allows the player to give up after receiving the first two cards but before the dealer checks for an ace in the hole. If surrendered, only 50 per cent of the bet is lost.
Edge: An advantage over an opponent. The house edge refers to the built-in profit casinos have on bets.
En prison: A French term meaning 'in prison'. The en prison rule is used in some, but not all casinos and applies only to even-money bets. Under the rule, when the result is zero, the casino will let the player reclaim half their original bet or leave it 'en prison' for another spin of the wheel. If the result is zero again, the whole bet is lost.
Even money: A bet that pays back the same amount you wagered plus your original bet.
Face cards: The jack, queen and king of each suit of cards.
