C to D
Call: A poker term, meaning to match the current bet.
Caller: In poker, this is a player who has just called a bet. In bingo, the caller is the person who draws the bingo balls and calls out the numbers.
Capping: A form of cheating. A player guilty of capping has placed extra chips on top of an initial bet after the deal has begun.
Card counting: This is the process of memorising the cards that have been played. People count cards in blackjack to gain advantage over the house. Not surprisingly, casinos tend to dislike card counting and use various tactics to combat it.
Cardsharp: A person who plays cards professionally - and cheats.
Carousel: A group of slot machines in a ring.
Caribbean Stud Poker: In this version of the game, all players play against the house.
Cashier's cage: The desk at a casino where you cash in your chips.
Casino advantage: Also called the house advantage, this is the edge that the house has over the players.
Casino rate: The reduced room rate offered to good customers by casinos.
Catch: A keno term used when a number marked on a ticket is drawn.
Check: Another word for a chip. Also used when a poker player opts to stay in a game without betting.
Chemin de Fer: Literally meaning 'road of iron' and the French term for railway, chemin de fer is a similar game to baccarat, but with an added element of skill. Players bet among themselves and the house takes a percentage on winning hands. The game is played in French.
Chips: Plastic tokens used for betting in casinos.
Cold: Not something most gamblers want to experience. A player on a losing streak is said to be cold, as is a slot machine that isn't paying out.
Colour up: Exchange smaller-denomination chips for larger-denomination ones.
Complete hand: This is a poker had defined by all five cards - a straight, flush, straight flush or full house.
Crew: Dice/craps dealers.
Croupier: A casino dealer.
Cut: To divide the deck of cards into two parts.
Cut card: Plastic card that's used to cut the deck.
Deal: To give out the cards during a hand.
Designated dealer: A different player serves as the designated dealer for each hand in a poker room where there is a resident dealer. The player to the left of the designated dealer bets first in games like Texas hold 'em.
Deuce: A two.
Die: Singular of dice.
Discard tray: A tray that holds all the cards that have been played or discarded.
Double down: A blackjack term. In this game, it's possible for players to double their original bet in exchange for receiving only one more card.
Draw: A term used in draw poker to refer to the second round of cards that are dealt.
Draw button: Button used to allow the player to draw up to five new cards in video poker.
Drop box: Box used at the gaming table for chips, markers and cash.
