Canal enthusiasts were boosted with a £4,250 Big Lottery Fund grant yesterday to help them restore an aqueduct. The project, at Cricklade, near Swindon, is part of a major restoration of the North Wiltshire Canal.
North Swindon MP Michael Wills, a keen supporter of the restoration, said: "This grant will enable volunteers to replace the coping stones from the towpath wall on the aqueduct, which were removed after 1918 to build the Purton War Memorial.
"I am pleased Lottery money is being allocated to a small local project like this and I look forward to seeing the renovated aqueduct."
