Scottish Strip Club Apply For Casino Licence
The owners of The Truffle Club, Glasgow's first tableside dancing venue, have applied for a casino licence with plans for a £1m redevelopment receiving backing from the Chamber of Commerce.
The application lodged with Glasgow City Council would see the closure of the lap-dancing club in Drury Street and the adult gaming centre below.
Philip Booth, owner of the club and the building, confirmed: "We have applied for a casino planning consent. It will be six to seven months before we know. Until then it will be business as usual at The Truffle Club."
If given the go-ahead by councillors the five-floor casino could be open virtually round the clock as Booth is requesting opening hours of 9am to 5am. He said up to £1m would be invested in transforming the club into a casino and the development would create 100 jobs.
The Truffle Club plan was welcomed by Glasgow Chamber of Commerce. Chief Executive Lesley Sawers said: "This will be good news for Glasgow. A casino would sit comfortably with the shopping, leisure and entertainment experience for which the city has become renowned and make it more attractive as a tourist destination."
