Aberdeen Says Yes To Wharf Development But No To Others
As one door opens others invariably close. Never more so as in Aberdeen casino circles when the council paved the way for the proposed multi-million pound City Wharf casino, leisure and shopping centre, whilst flatly refusing a further plan to relocate an existing licence closer to the city centre as well as rejecting another application for the centre due to over supply.
So whilst developers Kenmore were granted a provisional entertainment licence by the council for a potential casino as part of its £15 project as Shiprow, the International Casino's plans to move to the city centre fell on deaf ears. As did another proposal made by Granite Rock Casinos for another city centre casino, with the view being that with the new development the area would be already closing in on the supply/demand equation.
Kenmore, based in Edinburgh, has been granted a provisional licence for 5,656 square foot of gaming area, lounge bar and restaurant.
The developer had already warned that it would abandon the whole project if councillors rejected a gaming licence application from Grosvenor Casinos.
