Bruce Forsyth is Variety
There have been moans and groans that Bruce Forsyth is too old or as some have put it ‘doddery’. Forsyth, who has just turned eighty, can indeed be considered old. However, he disputes the fact that he is ‘doddery’. He has made it very clear that he will know when he is past it. There have been some concerns from viewers that he is perhaps no longer a suitable host for Strictly Come Dancing.
This is a hotly debated issue as there are many Bruce Forsyth fans. They have watched him present a number of shows over the years and Strictly Come Dancing has proved to be extremely popular. This is the show where a number of celebrities are invited to take part. Each one is partnered with a professional dancer. They are given dance lessons by the professional in a set time period. Ballroom dancing has always been popular in Britain and the show has made it more so. This dance form has become popular world wide and many countries have their own version of the show.
Bruce Forsyth is well known for hosting the popular Generation Game and Play your Cards Right. His fans love his witty retorts. They will be delighted to know that his reply to being branded ‘doddery’ was ‘senile yes, but not doddery’. Known as Brucie to his many appreciative fans he let it be known that he has never made use of his state pension. Brucie believes he is owed a fortune in back payments. He made it clear that he is not planning to retire. But the realistic entertainer did admit that he would have to retire at some time. It could be next week or next year.
Forsyth is proud of the fact that he is an all-round entertainer. He got his experience as a variety performer. To succeed at this form of entertainment it was necessary to be able to sing, dance, act, compere and do comedy. Nowadays it may be hard to understand but the hip and happening culture of those times was the music hall. Brucie says he carried all the skills he learned from that time with him to the present day. It is fair to say that some of the variety still clings to him. Many fans love him for this very reason while others feel he should change.
Regardless of opinion Forsyth went ahead and had a birthday celebration worthy of a veteran and much loved entertainer. He paraded himself in true Brucie style with a blond on one arm and a brunette on the other. The accolades poured in from stars such as Judie Dench. A great many celebs paid tribute to the entertainer at the Dorchester Hotel in London. On the guest list were:
