West Ham Joins Royal Flush Of
Football Teams
West
Ham United is the latest of a royal flush of famous football
clubs to reveal its desire to team up with Las Vegas
operator The Sands to provide their fan base with a US style
£1m 'super' UK casino.
The Hammers are in
negotiation with the world’s largest privately owned
casino company, Las Vegas Sands Inc (LVSI), who has also
been in talks with Glasgow Rangers FC and Sheffield United
FC, both of which are believed to be in the final stages of
agreeing deals. A club spokesperson at the First Division
east London club was revealing very little. "Like a number
of clubs ,we have had dialogue about the possibility of
opening a UK casino at the Boleyn Ground, but that's as far
as it’s gone at the moment," they said.
A LVSI spokeswoman said
that the introduction of a casino at West Ham would have a
positive effect on the cash-strapped club, revealing that UK
football clubs were being targeted because many needed extra
ways to create revenue and push brand development. "Clubs
are looking at a decline in media television deals and
increasing players' wages," she added. There would also be
benefits for the local community with a casino encouraging
wider investment in the area.
