Online Poker Scams
As with everything that pertains to the Internet, users of online poker rooms, casinos, and bingo halls should be aware that there are sites that one simply should avoid. Online poker scams have been robbing people of their hard earned money. Many sites have been blacklisted thanks to customer complaints of varying degrees that have not been responded to for many different reasons. The OCSA - Online Casinos Scam Alert – (http://www.online-casinos-scam-alert.com) has compiled a list of sites that should be avoided at all costs. The following sites are some of the most recent offenders.
The most recent scam report, dated January 2008, is on XXLClubCasino.com. According to the OCSA report, players have reported that they have not been able to get into the website or to contact the online casino. According to one member, they received a message from the manager of the site claiming that they are moving. Whether or not this is the case has not been confirmed and users should avoid it until further notice.
In late December 2007, Sportsbook.com was reported for stealing $10,000.00 from a player claiming that he abused his bonuses. According to the site, the player took bonuses from three different affiliates to the site, which was against the rules. There are no rules stated in the site’s current terms of service that state this is illegal. This has been a recurring complaint from other members, one of which had $150,000.00 winnings confiscated by the company. Until some of these matters are resolved and the site clarifies how bonuses are to be handled, it is advised to avoid this site at all cost.
Some of the other customer complaints have included slow payout on winnings, harassment by online poker managers for excessive identification records, SPAM e-mails, and misrepresentation of rules and terms. Many players have had their winnings confiscated. One player, when complaining about the excessive length of time it was taking for him to collect his winnings, received an e-mail stating that his account was closed and his down payment refunded because they did not like the tones or language he used in his last e-mail after being led on a wild goose chase for months.
OCSA has compiled a comprehensive report that is free to the public. It includes all the online casinos that have had reports filed against them as well as ones that have been totally blacklisted. The list covers online poker and gambling sites on an international scale, both on the blacklist and ones that have been investigated and approved by OCSA. They also have a section of game guides instructing new players on the basics of games such as Texas Hold’em, Blackjack, and other gambling games. If you are unsure whether or not the online poker site you are interested in playing on is upfront and legitimate in their payouts, check with the OCSA website to confirm they are not on the blacklist. If you are concerned about your money disappearing, make it a point to only play on sites reviewed and approved by the OCSA to avoid the hassle of fighting for your payout.
