Optimistic oldie wins 25k on reaching 100
Alec Holden recently celebrated reaching the grand old age of 100. As he passed the century mark, his first act was to head down to William Hills to collect his £25,000 winnings.
Back in 1997, Holden, then aged 90, made a £100 bet that he would live until 100. William Hill offered him odds of 250/1, which they are most probably regretting now.
Mr Holden looks surprisingly well for his age and joked with reporters as he celebrated his big win. He explained that the bet was a win-win situation had he not won, he would not be around to lament the loss.
Bookmaker William Hill has decided to change the rule on age bets, upping the new age target to 110.
