Shilpa Shocker For Bookies As
£2m Bet On Big Brother
Bookies William
Hill took a right
royal hammering when red hot 1/10 favourite Shilpa Shetty
won Big Brother after an astonishing £2 million was bet
on the outcome of Celebrity Big Brother.
"Shilpa was the only loser
in the book and it is fair to say that we have been bashed
on a scale never seen before on a reality TV programme.
There will be queues at the payout tomorrow and there can be
little doubt that Shilpa will make a fortune out of her
win." said William Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams.
Shilpa started as a 14/1
outsider, with one foresighted punter from Bristol placing
£50 and collecting £700.
To win the same amount at
her final price of 1/10 you would have needed to place
£7,000.
William Hill's biggest bet
was £40,000 on Shilpa winning, just one hour before the
end, for which the London based punter will win just
£400.
Will Big Brother
Survive?
William Hill have opened
the betting on whether or not Celebrity Big Brother will be
screened on Channel 4 in 2008 and offer 2/5 that there IS
another series and 7/4 that no further series is
commissioned.
"Big Brother is the
biggest ratings success on Channel 4 and they would be
loathed to drop it from their scheduling. If the programme
can survive such a massive outcry then you have to think
that Celebrity Big Brother will be screened again," said
William Hill's spokesman.
