Tour de France Unveils Detailed
2007 Route
The precise route for the
opening stages of the 2007 Tour de France in England has
been announced.
The opening ceremony will
take place in Trafalgar Square on Friday 6 July with an 8km
prologue in London the next day.
The first stage proper, a
203km run from the capital to Canterbury, takes place on
Sunday 8 July.
After leaving England, the
3,500km-long race dips into Belgium before taking in both
the Alps and Pyrenees before finishing in Paris on 29
July.
The prologue on Saturday 7
July starts in Whitehall and goes down Victoria Street and
Buckingham Gate before cutting through Green
Park.
The riders will then race
a loop through Hyde Park before finishing back on The
Mall.
Stage one on Sunday begins
in central London and heads out through the south east of
the capital to Dartford.
The route then goes
through Gravesend, Medway, Maidstone, Tonbridge, Royal
Tunbridge Wells, Tenterden and Ashford before finishing by
Canterbury Cathedral.
Various official websites
are providing full maps, road closure information, and
detailed advice to people and businesses affected by the
race.
Yet it all started quite
tamely, with Boro pretty much on top from the first
whistle.
