Longest White Christmas Odds Just
Got Shorter
No sooner had
William
Hill pushed out
their odds for a White Christmas to a longest ever 16/1,
than snow began to fall in southern England, causing a rapid
reassessment of the odds and a halving of the prices for a
White Christmas to 8/1 in London; 7/1 in Cardiff and 5/1 in
Glasgow.
"We thought the chances of
a White Christmas anywhere in the country were virtually
non-existent as all of our expert meteorological contacts
were suggesting that there was no sign of now to be seen up
to and including Christmas - but all of a sudden we started
taking bets and then heard reports that as temperatures were
tumbling, snow was falling - and if it can fall in the south
then the rest of the country might be equally vulnerable -
remember we need just a flake to fall during the entire 24
hours of December 25 and we would be facing a six figure
payout" said William Hill's spokesman Graham
