England 7/2 Not To QualifyFootball

William Hill - who now make England just 7/2 to fail to qualify for the Euro 08 finals - have opened a book on who will succeed Steve McClaren as England manager, just five games into his reign - the earliest they have ever begun to speculate on an England boss's successor.

"After two spectacularly inept performances within a matter of days it is beginning to look as though McClaren was as responsible for the Sven era as the Swede himself" said William Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe. "His honeymoon with the media and the public lasted only three games and it is now obvious that England have it all to do just to qualify and McClaren will be made the scapegoat."

William Hill have installed Martin O'Neill and Peter Taylor as 5/1 joint favourites to succeed McClaren and make the former Boro boss just 6/1 to leave the job during 2007 - 66/1 to go this year and 7/4 to depart in the next World Cup year, 2010. He is 3/1 to step down in 2008; 7/2 in 2009 and 4/1 to survive into 2011.

Terry Venables is 12/1 to take over from McClaren with Sam Allardyce also 12/1; Alan Curbishley 16/1 and Bryan Robson 20/1 along with Stuart Pearce while Wenger is 33/1 and Molurinho 50/1.

England are now 7/2 to fail to qualify from their Group and 1/6 to make it to the final stages. They are 4/6 favourites to win the Group. Having been favourites to win Euro 2008, England have been lengthened from 11/2 to 7/1 by William Hill to win the tournament, with Germany now 11/2 clear favourites.

David Beckham is down from 5/1 to 7/2 with William Hill to play for England again.
