Weekend Football
Preview
West Ham's home fixture
against Aston Villa is the most eagerly anticipated of the
fledgling Premiership season after the Hammers beat the
cream of Europe to sign Argentinean stars, Carlos Tevez and
Javier Mascherano. On a wave of optimism the Hammers are
1.787 (0 & -0.5) having done the double over the Villans
last season, while the visitors are 2.17 (0 & +0.5) to
spoil the fiesta on Sunday.
Saturday sees the 204th
renewal of the Merseyside Derby. Liverpool are rated 2.09
(-0.5) by Pinnacle Sports having won the last three
encounters and on five of the last six visits to Goodison
Park. Everton (1.84, +0.5) beat the Reds at home in 2004,
but that was their sole victory in the last thirteen
meetings.
After a blistering start
to the season Man Utd's odds to win the Premiership title
have been slashed and Pinnacle
Sports has them as
1.962 (-1) favourites to beat Tottenham at Old Trafford.
Though Spurs earned draws on their last two visits to the
Theatre of Dreams, they have never won a Premiership game at
the venue. Pinnacle Sports quote the Londoners 1.962
(+1).
Having got his
multi-national squad back from international duty in one
piece, Jose Mourinho's Chelsea should be warm order to cover
(-1.5 & -2) 1.962 at home to Charlton 1.962 (+1.5 &
+2). The Addicks' haven't won in 15 away Premiership ties,
but left Stamford Bridge last season with heads held high
having earned a draw.
Boro's topsy-turvy form
continued as they followed a home win over the Champions
with a 4-0 thumping by Pompey at the Riverside. Manager,
Gareth Southgate, will hope for more luck at the Emirates
Stadium than Highbury, where Middlesborough lost their last
three visits conceding 16 times. Pinnacle Sports go 1.952
(over 2.5 & 3 goals).
Sheffield United host
Blackburn in a game that could be dubbed the 'Battle of
Bramall Lane'. Propping up the Premiership, neither side is
yet to win, and in three games have managed just one
goal-a-piece so no surprises Pinnacle Sports rate the unders
(2 & 2.5) 1.901.
It's a tough ask for
Watford (2.07, +0.5 & +1) searching for their first win
at the Reebok. Bolton (1.862, -0.5 & -1) lost just three
times at home last season, beating seven of the bottom eight
teams.
Harry Redknapp's foreign
legion is taking the battle to the Premiership. Portsmouth
(1.901, -0.5) are yet to concede, taking seven points from
three games. Wigan (2.03, +0.5) are the next visitors to
Fratton Park, looking to break a four Premiership game away
losing streak.
Fulham's 5-1 defeat at Old
Trafford suggested they may struggle to improve on their
solitary away win last season. They did manage a draw at
St.James' Park, and with Geordies struggling for fit
strikers, can be backed 1.877 (+0.5 & +1) while
Newcastle are rated 2.05 (-0.5 & -1) by Pinnacle Sports.
Man City lost just two of
their ten games against the bottom five last season and
Pinnacle Sports has them 2.19 (scratch/0) at newboys Reading
on Monday. The Citizens, however, have won just two of their
last 13 Premiership fixtures, while the Royals are unbeaten
in an amazing 23 games at the Madejski. Though life is much
tougher in the Premiership, their opening fixtures have been
encouraging, and Pinnacle Sports price them 1.775
(scratch/0).
