Brown To Tax Super
Casinos
Chancellor
Gordon Brown is tipped to impose a massive new tax on
super
casinos in the
Budget.
Casino operators are
expected to face a tax bill of £5000 for every gambling
machine with unlimited jackpots, which could mean a total of
£6.25 million to open a facility.
Mr Brown would then use
the money to abolish taxes on small-scale gaming machines to
ease the burden on family-run seaside arcades.
Culture Secretary Tessa
Jowell had planned up to eight new super casinos across the
United Kingdom, but was forced to cut the number to just one
in the face of public and political opposition. However,
Sports Minister Richard Caborn has since said there could be
more if the demand exists.
