Casino Plan Touted In
Bournemouth
Plans
to set up a major UK casino in a seaside resort are being
considered by council chiefs.
Bournemouth
Council is looking
at applying for government approval for a 150-machine
complex in the Dorset town.
Its leaders claim such a
casino would create 330 jobs and could be an important
tourist attraction.
They are holding public
consultation on the plan, saying they are aware there could
be concern over the raised profile it would give
gambling.
But they also argue a
casino would offer the town "a high-quality facility which
is not alcohol-led."
A spokesman added: "The
site value could potentially provide money to invest in
public facilities, such as the Pavilion Theatre."
If the council goes ahead
with the plan, it would need to submit its Gambling Act
application by the end of March.
Councillors will make
their decision on 28 February 2006.
