Dance an Irish Jig, Be Insulting and Win 54 Thousand Pounds

The votes were in and John Loughton got £50,000. Of course the easy way to make it these days is by taking part in a Big Brother series like Celebrity Hijack. It is not like the participants have to climb Everest or cut through the Amazon. They don’t even have to eat a live rat. However, it does help a lot if they make complete fools of themselves.

John Loughton is a politician. To be honest, the public have become rather used to politicians making complete idiots of themselves. Still, Loughton managed to win quite easily. It should be remembered that this politician is only twenty years old. It seems that he does have the makings of a rather good politician. This is according to Big Bro standards of course. After all, he did win.

This young man comes from Edinburgh. He is earning a degree in politics and sociology. Loughton also chairs the Scottish Youth Parliament. The politician took fifty four percent of the votes. His closest rival was the eighteen year old Emilia Arata. She just couldn’t make a big enough fool of herself. All in all there were twelve participants. It is agreed this is the group that has given a new twist to the series.

Of course the changes all began after the show of all shows. The infamous Jade Goody and Shilpa Shetty relationship. This is the show where Goody did the unthinkable. She used racial slurs in a backstabbing attempt to get at Shetty. Shetty reacted by remaining a gracious and forgiving victim. The British public were outraged - they wanted changes and fast. But the new show has generated a lot less interest.

A variety of celebs played Big Brother to the twelve contestants. The twelve were picked because of their individual talents and level of intelligence. The celebs appeared in the following order:

  • Matt Lucas
  • Jimmy Carr Joan Rivers
  • Brian Sewell
  • Ian Wright
Matt Lucas wasted no time and on the first night had Loughton doing his bidding through an earpiece. The youthful politician was told to dance an Irish jig, crawl around on all fours and insult all the other housemates. Viewers found it hilarious. Matt’s sense of humour and Loughton’s willingness to make an ass of himself paid off. The politician immediately took the lead as the favourite housemate.

When Celeb Hijack opened it was seen on Channel 4 and E4. The number of viewers was said to be 3.4 million. This was about half compared to the launch of last year’s show. When this year’s edition ended there were only 644 000 viewers to watch Loughton beat:

  • 2nd Emilia Arata 18
  • 3rd Amy Jackson 21 (conceptual artist)
  • 4th Anthony Ogogo 19 (boxer)
Soon there will be a summer season for Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack. Edgar-Jones a seasoned member of the team behind the show will start going through audition tapes. The challenge is to see whether or not this series can pull in the viewers. When all is said and done this is all that really matters.
