No. 1 Debut for ‘Scouting for Girls’

The pop group from London has taken first place from Amy Macdonald’s ‘This is the Life’. Scouting for Girls’ ‘Take That’ moved from no. 3 straight to the top of the charts. From the start the three were determined to make a success of things. They made the decision to take a proactive attitude towards the music scene. Long before they became famous the trio would put on their own shows. Their local in Harrow was the chosen venue. They also promoted their music with a bi-monthly CD that was well received.

Their next vehicle for promotion was MySpace. This worked very well as it enabled the band to establish a solid fan base. In 2006 the three musicians acquired a manager. It did not take too long before Scouting for Girls had their very first record deal. The band’s music is easy on the ear and deals with the usual ups and downs of life. It appeals to a large audience and has been called happy, shiny and even pretty.

The band had an interesting start. Pete Ellard and Roy Stride met when they were seven years old. The meeting took place when the two joined the Cubs. At the age of thirteen the boys started a band. At senior school Greg Churchouse made contact with Roy. All three became friends and all were very involved in music. The trio decided to start a band in 2005. The three artists have remained friends ever since their first meeting.

This UK band is from Ruislip in London. The musical trio decided on the name Scouting for Girls. This name was inspired by their experience in the Cubs and Gary Glitter. The quote ‘Scouting for Girls’ is believed to have been accredited to him. It is a play on the title Scouting for Boys, a manual by Lord Baden-Powell that is given to Scouts. It instructs them on how to be good citizens. This band exudes a wholesome image. Their music and lyrics are regarded as appropriate for any age group.

The band has described themselves as normal and down-to-earth. They tried being in a rock band but it did not work for them. They are what their songs and lyrics are about. Happy guys singing nice harmonies and good melodies. Nobody would feel uncomfortable playing Scouting for Girls for their Nan or pre-teen kids. It seems a big part of their appeal is that they do not try to be anything they are not.

For some the sound that is produced by Roy, Pete and Greg is too sweet and too shiny. However, their self-titled album has sold 200,000 copies. It cannot be denied that ‘Elvis Isn’t Dead’ is a very good pop song. Their music is aimed specifically at sentimental girls and adults. The pop trio has garnered this section of the music lovers market with great success. We can be certain that in the years to come their music will invoke many happy memories.
