Big Brother Betting
With Celebrity Come
Dancing and the X Factor still the talk of the town, the
celebrity bandwagon rolls on in the New Year, as the fifth
series of Channel 4's Celebrity Big Brother started on
January 3rd.
As always presenters
Davina McCall, Dermot O'Leary and Russell Brand are hosting
the shows, where a selection of old and new celebrities bid
to give their flagging careers a short term
kick-start.
This year's crop have five
weeks to survive, the longest in this show, but nowhere near
the three months the normal Big Brother contestants have to
endure on the main show.
Channel Four will pay the
celebs for doing the show, but the channel will donate the
winner's prize to their chosen charity in order to help
publicity.
If past series' are to go
by then the betting will be a frenzied affair, with
bookmakers offering a variety of markets on the five weeks
of cramped living. With potential walkouts and normal Big
Brother surprise expect some topsy-turvy odds, but note that
three of the four current winners have all been
male.
Past winners include
comedian Jack Dee, who landed the first series, Take That
singer Mark Owen the following year, then Bez, from Happy
Mondays, and then finally last year Chantelle Houghton, who
scooped the prize after going in to the house as a
non-celebrity in one of the shows twists.
